Agreements

Since the demise of the TUC Union Law Scheme the CWU has been
attempting to negotiate an In-house scheme in order to provide the
union’s membership with free legal advice on non work related issues.

A number of idea’s were explored but unfortunately the union was unable to finalise their negotiations and this has been reported in this years Annual Report.

The Union can report that further negotiations have continued and we are pleased to announce an agreement has been reached which will enable us to provide this service to the membership.

Simpson and Millar will operate this service, via a national call centre. Members will be able to access this service using the freephone number at the top of this page. Members will be required to provide Branch details and membership numbers, which can be provided by the Branch secretary via your unit reps.

Members need to be made aware that if you engage a solicitor to act on your behalf you do so on a private client basis the the CWU will not be responsible for any costs incurred.

Any queries to:
Neal Crafter
Legal and Medical Officer

The Union can give consideration to claims for damages arising from negligent medical treatment. However, these cases are difficult and costly to pursue. In the first instance, a full history of the case should be submitted to the Legal Services Department, who will decide whether or not authorisation can be given to proceed with the case further by the involvement of solicitors.
